spring sun + shadows

Bio:
My work as a visual artist is driven by my curiosity about how things work and fit into social contexts. I explore this curiosity through painting and drawing directly from my experiences and daily influences. Larger questions such as migration/immigration, climate change/environment, and other boundaries in social contexts, are undercurrents that flow through my work. I express these themes conceptually, through subtle allusions and metaphors making parallel examples to bring up controversial or difficult subjects.

Along side my creation, I am involved in inciting community interest in contemporary art. Since 2003 I have organised and curated thematic exhibitions in unconventional exhibition spaces and in 2021 I curated the Mäntän kuvataideviikot.

With the exception of one cold, windy day, my time in Korppoo was suspiciously calm sunny and warm.

As a focus for my time in AARK, I was thinking about things that make me comfortable in a new place: things that make it feel like home.

Renja had a vase of yellow roses on the table when I arrived, and I decided to make these my beginning.
