Current AARK resident and filmmaker Astrid Menzel is looking for participants to film her latest work.

Astrid is looking for a group of engaged people open to work with her. No prior artistic experience is needed.

The video shoot will take place in the Korppoo Area from 27-29th of March. Not everyone is needed the whole time.

Participants will receive video footage or possibly also photos for their own use and a little financial compensation as well as the reimbursement of their travel costs.

Looking for people of different ages to form a family in front of the camera:

  • Two siblings (14-30 years old)
  • A mother (20-36 years old) with her little baby (0-9 month)
  • One man (50-70 years old)
  • One woman (50-70 years old)
  • One "very old" person (around 80)

Astrid intends to capture a specific mood from a family reunion, that she encountered herself some years back, when her grandfather passed away. The family has never been closer than during that time "waiting for death to happen". The final result will be a video art exhibition about the Cycle of Life, shown in Bremen, Germany and hopefully also in the Archipelago Area. The project is a collaboration with the Finnish sound artist Jaakko Autio, another former AARK resident.

These are the drawings of the three planned videos:

Illustration of a woman sitting on the floor cradling an infant. A sink and mirror are in the background.
A mother sitting on the bathroom floor, massaging her new-born baby, capturing the closeness between mother and baby.
A person on a medical bed with an IV is visited by someone sitting on the bed. A small TV on a stand shows a face.
While an old man is lying in bed in the bedroom next door, having trouble breathing.
A family of five sits around a table with a patterned cloth, playing a board game under a hanging lamp.
A group of people is happily playing cards in the dim light. A family united in an isolated cabin.

Astrid Menzel, together with Skärgårdscenturm Korpoström, are organising the Art and Artists event, where local and international artists can meet and get to know each other and each others' work. The event is open to everyone, not just those who consider themselves artists, and is a great opportunity to meet the artists who are staying at AARK this month and also to get to know some of the local artists.
